Welcome to the website of Stichting Paardenopvang Amsterdam (Horse Shelter Foundation Amsterdam). We provide a shelter for animals that deserve a second chance: animals
that we think are in too good a condition to be taken to the
slaughterhouse. In all cases, however, the animals are first examined
by a vet.
Our shelter is not a horse riding school; it's more of a children's farm. On our premises you will find goats, chickens, horses, ponies, and rabbits. It is not possible to rent a pony or a horse, but children can learn how to properly treat animals. One of our regular activities is to take some ponies to malls nearby: the children can ride the ponies and we give them information about the animals.
The foundation does not receive any state subsidies for its work and
solely depends on financial support of its contributors. Please know
that any amount you might want to donate will be much appreciated.

Children can come to our shelter for various activities, like grooming the ponies. Birthday parties are also regularly held at our accomodation.
Our objective is to bring children into contact with animals. In
our opinion, children ought to be more outside, and being outside among
animals is a perfect start. Thanks to our activities, children learn
playfully how to behave themselves around the various animals in our
shelter.
Our many years' experience tells us that children can have beneficial effects on the healing process of horses.
